Time tracking for oil and gas crews

Time tracking for oil and gas crews who move between remote sites.

Oil and gas time tracking has to follow crews between wellsites, pads and right-of-way, often far from town. ZeroBadge gives each worker a company-managed badge with its own cellular connection. Power on and the shift starts. Each report is placed at the location you've drawn, named by well, lease or AFE. When the badge loses coverage, it stores its reports and uploads them when it reconnects.

  • No phone needed on location
  • Stored reports upload after a coverage gap
  • One month or more of battery life*

*Under qualifying operating conditions. Battery life varies with reporting frequency, signal conditions, usage, and configuration.

What ZeroBadge does for you

How ZeroBadge helps Oil & Gas

One company badge per worker covers safety alerts, timekeeping, labor analytics and ZeroBadge AI. Here is what each part does in your line of work.

  • 01

    Worker safety

A pumper alone on a lease can press SOS, and the office sees which well pad it came from. The badge is not certified for hazardous locations.

    Learn more
  • 02

    Workforce management

Know which crew is at which pad or right-of-way segment, and see late arrivals or missing crews on the dashboard before the day's schedule slips.

    Learn more
  • 03

    Automated timekeeping

Each stop on a lease gets its own line, and so does the lease road between stops, with hours recorded from badge on to badge off.

    Learn more
  • 04

    Workforce productivity

Set labor hours against each field or project and see where road time and waiting ate into the plan before the rotation ends.

    Learn more
  • 05

    Location analytics

GPS works on open wellsites and right-of-way. Where signal drops, the badge stores reports and uploads them on reconnect with their original timestamps.

    Learn more
  • 06

    Field logistics

Plan crews across pads and leases using the record of how they really moved, including drive time on lease roads between remote locations.

  • 07

    AI advisory and analytics

Ask which pads took the most drive time last week and get a plain-English answer from your own records, with every figure linked to the reports behind it.

Safety alerts support your safety program. They do not replace supervision or training, ZeroBadge does not monitor alerts or contact 911, and in an emergency workers should call 911.

Where oil and gas labor goes missing

The ticket says one location. The crew worked three and drove between them.

Operators and service companies move people across a field every day. The hours get coded to wells and leases later, by someone who wasn't there.

  • Hours coded to the wrong well

A crew finishes on one pad and moves to the next. The field ticket carries the first location for the whole day.

  • Long drives on lease roads

An hour each way to a remote location is paid time. On paper it disappears into the site hours or gets left off.

  • No signal at the location

Phone apps stall where coverage drops. The worker fills in the gap at the end of a long day, from memory.

  • Phones not allowed on site

Many locations restrict personal phones. An app-based time clock then depends on a rule nobody wants to bend.

One shift, several locations

Each stop gets its own line, and so does the drive between them.

The example company here is a construction contractor. The record works the same way at a wellsite. One shift per worker, split by every location the badge was placed at.

Draw each pad, wellsite or yard as a location and name it the way your accounting does. Time on location, time driving and time at the yard come out as separate lines. Long days that run past midnight split at midnight without losing minutes.

Before the hours go out

Gaps and odd days are flagged for review, not guessed.

Some stretches have no reading at all. ZeroBadge marks that time as location unverified. It never invents a place. A day with a missing clock-out or a very long shift lands in the review queue.

When a badge comes back into coverage, its stored reports upload with their original times and the day fills in. The office clears what's left and approves the week. Approved hours are sent to your payroll provider automatically.

On location

What your field supervisors will ask.

  • Remote coverage

The badge needs cellular coverage to report live. Out of coverage it keeps recording and uploads stored reports when it reconnects.

  • Right-of-way

Draw the stretch of pipeline right-of-way a crew is working as its own location. Redraw it as the work moves.

  • Badges at camp

The office sees battery and signal for every badge. A low-battery alert fires at 25% by default, so a badge left off the charger at camp gets noticed before the next hitch.

  • Contract crews

Issue a badge to each contract hand for the job. Reassign it when they leave. Their hours sit beside your own crew's.

ZeroBadge AI

Ask ZeroBadge AI about your field crews

ZeroBadge AI is read-only. It answers from your badge records, and your admins control who can use it.

  • You ask

Which pads took the most drive time last week?

Crew B drove 11h 40m to the Cedar Draw pad, 19% of its recorded time. Drive time is kept separate from time on location.

  • You ask

Which crews had gaps in their reports yesterday?

Two of 14 crew members had gaps over an hour, both near Dry Fork. Stored reports uploaded at 6:12 PM, and the gaps are flagged for review, not filled in.

  • You ask

How many hours were recorded at each pad on the Monday rotation?

The rotation logged 46 hours at Cedar Draw, 31 at Dry Fork and 22 at Red Mesa, plus 9 hours of lease-road travel. Each line links to its shifts.

Answers come only from your company's own records. Every number links to the records behind it. Read-only; admins control access.

How ZeroBadge AI works

Questions

Questions oil and gas companies ask.

What happens when a crew works where there's no cell coverage?
The badge keeps recording. It stores its reports and uploads them with their original times when it reconnects, and the day fills in. Locations with no coverage for very long periods are a poor fit, since nothing reaches the office until the badge reconnects.
Can hours be coded by well, lease or AFE?
Hours are split by location. Name each location the way your accounting does, by well, lease or AFE, and the timesheet and reports carry that name. Exports go to CSV, Excel or PDF if you need them in another system.
Is the badge certified for hazardous locations?
No. The badge is not certified for hazardous locations, including Class I Division 1, ATEX or IECEx zones. Check your site's rules before it goes into a classified area.
Is drive time between locations kept separate from time on location?
Yes. Every minute of the shift is classified as on site, in transit or other, and on-site time is allocated to the location the badge was placed at. A day with a two-hour drive out to a remote pad shows the drive as its own line, separate from the hours on location.
Do crews need to carry a phone?
No. The badge has its own cellular connection and needs no app. That matters on locations where personal phones are restricted. More in time tracking without phones.
