Time tracking for construction companies

Construction time tracking that follows crews from job to job.

Construction time tracking has to follow people, not a time clock at the gate. Crews start at the shop, get moved to another job at noon and stop at the supply house on the way. ZeroBadge gives each worker a company-managed badge. Power it on and the shift starts. Every report is placed at the jobsite, shop or supplier you've drawn. Power it off and the shift ends.

  • No phone or app for the worker
  • Hours split by jobsite automatically
  • One month or more of battery life*

*Under qualifying operating conditions. Battery life varies with reporting frequency, signal conditions, usage, and configuration.

What ZeroBadge does for you

How ZeroBadge helps Construction

One company badge per worker covers safety alerts, timekeeping, labor analytics and ZeroBadge AI. Here is what each part does in your line of work.

  • 01

    Worker safety

A worker at any jobsite can press the alert button, and the office sees which site raised it, with restricted-area alerts around hazards you draw.

    Learn more
  • 02

    Workforce management

See which crews are at which jobsite right now, who is late to a start and who never showed, without calling foremen.

    Learn more
  • 03

    Automated timekeeping

Badge on starts the shift and the week builds itself, with a move between jobs, the shop or a supply house staying one shift.

    Learn more
  • 04

    Workforce productivity

Compare actual hours against budgeted hours for each job, with a forecast to completion while there is still time to act.

    Learn more
  • 05

    Location analytics

GPS outdoors and Wi-Fi indoors place each worker at a jobsite, the shop or a supplier, with the method and confidence recorded for every reading.

    Learn more
  • 06

    Field logistics

Balance crews across several open jobs using the record of how they really moved, so labor goes where the schedule needs it.

    Learn more
  • 07

    AI advisory and analytics

Ask ZeroBadge AI which jobs are burning labor faster than budget, and each answer links to the hours behind it.

Safety alerts support your safety program. They do not replace supervision or training, ZeroBadge does not monitor alerts or contact 911, and in an emergency workers should call 911.

Where construction labor gets lost

A crew sheet shows one job. The day had four stops.

General contractors and specialty contractors run several jobs at once. The week's labor gets written up on Friday, from memory, by a foreman who was busy building.

  • Crews moved between jobs

Three fitters go to the other job after lunch. The timecard still says eight hours at the first one. Both jobs now carry the wrong labor.

  • Shop time booked to the job

Loading the truck and prefab work happen at the shop. On paper they become jobsite hours, so the shop looks idle.

  • Supply-house runs with no job on them

A counter run at 2 PM is paid time. It belongs to a job, but the timecard rarely says which one.

  • Friday reconstruction

The office chases missing sheets and re-keys them into payroll. Mistakes surface when someone's check is short.

A crew's week across jobsites

See where every crew was each day, and what changed.

This is one week at a construction contractor with several jobsites running. Each column is a day. The counts show how many people recorded time at each job, and the changes are flagged.

When part of a crew moves to another job, the record shows it on the day it happened. Nobody has to remember it on Friday. The transfer, the drive and the time at each site all sit in one shift per worker.

Labor by job

Know which jobs are running over their labor budget this week.

Enter a labor budget per job in hours, dollars or both. Add a loaded rate per worker. Recorded hours become labor dollars against each budget, with overtime where it happened.

The example company here is a construction contractor. A job with no rate entered shows an unknown cost, never $0. More in labor cost tracking.

By kind of contractor

One record for general contractors and every specialty.

The badge and the platform are the same for every construction company. Each specialty has its own page.

  • General contractors

Self-perform crews and superintendents across several active projects. Hours by job, with site transfers on the day they happened.

  • Mechanical contractors

Fab shop, field and supplier time for HVAC, piping and sheet metal crews. See mechanical contractors.

  • Electrical contractors

Many small TI jobs, service calls and public work, with crew mix by job. See electrical contractors.

  • Plumbing contractors

Service stops and supply-house runs beside new-construction crews. See plumbing contractors.

ZeroBadge AI

Ask about your jobs and crews

Ask a question in everyday words and ZeroBadge AI answers from your own records, read-only and with admins controlling who can use it.

  • You ask

Which jobs are using labor faster than budget?

Riverside Medical is at 71% of budgeted hours with the schedule 55% complete, and Harbor Lofts is at 64% against 60%. Both link to the weekly hours.

  • You ask

How many hours did Crew 3 spend at the shop last week?

Crew 3 recorded 26 hours at the shop and 118 at jobsites. The shop hours are listed by day so you can review the loading time.

  • You ask

Who did not clock in on Monday?

Two scheduled workers had no badge activity on Monday, one on Riverside Medical and one on Harbor Lofts. Both are listed as no-shows for review.

Answers come only from your company's own records. Every number links to the records behind it. Read-only; admins control access.

How ZeroBadge AI works

Questions

Questions construction companies ask.

How does ZeroBadge track a worker who goes to two jobsites in one day?
It keeps one shift and splits it by location. Time at each jobsite, the drive between them and any supply-house stop show as separate lines. Reports and labor budgets read from that split. More in multi-jobsite time tracking.
Do construction workers need a phone or an app?
No. The badge has its own cellular connection. The company issues it, the worker clips it on and powers it on at the start of the day. Nothing goes on a personal phone.
Does it work inside a building under construction?
Outdoors the badge uses GPS. Indoors it places itself from the Wi-Fi networks it can see, and it learns site Wi-Fi over time. Where there's no coverage it stores its reports and uploads them when coverage returns.
Is there a page for my specialty?
Yes, for three of them: mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors. Fire protection, controls, insulation and other specialty contractors use the same record.
How do approved hours get to payroll?
The office reviews the period's timesheets and approves them. Approved hours are sent to your payroll provider automatically. ZeroBadge doesn't run payroll or pay workers. See payroll integration.
