Construction crew tracking
Construction crew tracking that follows the crew, not the clipboard.
Construction crew tracking shows where each crew is right now and where it spent the week. ZeroBadge builds both from one badge record. During the shift, the live view lists each worker at the jobsite, shop or supplier the latest report places them. After the week closes, the same record becomes hours by site. Tracking runs only while a badge is powered on for a paid shift.

4 locations in one shift, 1h 35m in transit, still one record.
Two questions, one record
Where is the crew right now is a different question from where did the hours go.
A superintendent asks the first one at 10 AM. An owner or controller asks the second one on Monday. The badge record answers both, but they are different views and you should not mix them up.
Is the mechanical crew at Riverside or has it moved?
The live view during the shift
Each badge sits at the site its latest report places it. The report is about 5 minutes old at most when signal is good.
The weekly record after it
Hours by worker, day and jobsite, with the move already split out.
Who did we send to Elm Street?
The live view during the shift
Three badges now report from Elm Street and show Riverside as where they started the day.
The weekly record after it
Elm Street's hours for that day include the three, and Riverside's do not.
Is the foreman with the crew?
The live view during the shift
His badge shows at the supply house or in transit while the rest of the crew shows on site.
The weekly record after it
His supplier stop and drive appear as their own lines, apart from jobsite hours.
Did the crew lose a day somewhere?
The live view during the shift
A badge that has not reported shows its last known place and the time of that report.
The weekly record after it
The gap is flagged as an exception, filled in if stored reports upload later.
The live view is the latest report, not a video of the site. The badge reports about every 5 minutes. If signal drops, reports are stored and uploaded on reconnect with their original timestamps.
Crews that move
Crew moves show the day they happen, not on Friday's sheet.
The record follows each worker, so a move does not need a phone call or a change to a schedule first. When part of one crew goes to the job that is behind, their badges start reporting from the other site and the counts for both jobs change the same day.
A crew in ZeroBadge is the group of workers assigned to a site or reporting from it. If you name crews on your own board, the badge record still shows which of those people were where. The week's hours by site are covered in multi-jobsite time tracking.

Three scenarios on one Tuesday
What the office sees when the plan changes at 10 AM.
The times and names are illustrative. The mechanics are not: each line uses only what a badge reports.
10:40 AM. Superintendent, commercial TI
What happened on the ground
The drywall hangers are done early at Riverside. He sends three of them to Elm Street to start the punch list.
What the live view and record show
By the next report, three badges list Elm Street. Riverside's live count drops by three, Elm Street's rises by three, and the drive is transit, not site time.
1:15 PM. Foreman and a lead journeyman, mechanical
What happened on the ground
The foreman leaves for a supply house run and the lead journeyman runs the crew until he is back at 2:20. Nobody tells the office.
What the live view and record show
The foreman's badge shows the supply house, then transit, then the site again. The crew's badges never left the site. The record is the handoff: seven on site, foreman away for 65 minutes.
3:30 PM. Project manager
What happened on the ground
Wants to know before tomorrow whether Riverside got the labor it was promised.
What the live view and record show
The weekly record so far shows each worker's site hours for Monday and Tuesday. Last week's same days sit beside them.
A foreman handoff here is a pattern on the record, not a feature that names a lead. The record shows who was at the site and when. Who was in charge is still your call.
Four ways to know where a crew is
Crew tracking is only as good as the person or device that reports it.
| Compare | ZeroBadgeCompany badge on each worker | Daily log or whiteboardForeman writes it down | Phone location appWorker's phone reports | Radio, calls and textsAsk the foreman |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where is each crew now | Latest report per badge, by jobsite. | Where it was at 7 AM, if the log is filled in. | Where each phone is, if it is on, charged and logged in. | Whatever the foreman says, when he answers. |
| A mid-day crew move | Shows on the next report from the new site. | Shows up tomorrow, if someone remembers. | Shows if the app is running on each phone. | Known to the two people on the call. |
| Workers without a smartphone | Covered. The badge has its own cellular connection. | Covered, by the foreman's memory. | Not covered. It needs a personal phone and data plan. | Covered, by whoever has a radio. |
| Tracking outside the shift | None. Badges are powered off between shifts. | None. | Depends on whether the worker closes the app. | None. |
| The week's hours by site | Built from the same record, split by jobsite. | Re-keyed from the log at week's end. | Available if the app tracks hours by job. | Not recorded. |

The tradeoff
A phone app is a reasonable answer for an owner-operator crew that all carry capable phones and keep the app open. A foreman's log is a reasonable answer for one crew on one site. The gap appears when crews move between sites during the day and not everyone carries a phone.
What the live view shows
What each reading means and how much to trust it.
Which jobsite, not which room
The live view answers which drawn location a badge is in. It does not say which floor or room, and it does not promise indoor precision.
GPS outdoors, Wi-Fi indoors
A badge outdoors uses GPS. Indoors it uses Wi-Fi positioning, which learns each site's Wi-Fi over the first visits, so a new site is a little less sure than one with a few weeks behind it.
Cellular in between
When neither GPS nor Wi-Fi gives a reading, cellular continuity keeps the badge where it last was and labels it low confidence.
How fresh it is
A badge reports about every 5 minutes, so the live view is a few minutes behind the real crew. A badge that has gone quiet shows its last report and the time.
On only while a badge is on
Power-on starts the shift and power-off ends it. The badge is company-owned, company-managed and off between shifts, so there is nothing to see after hours.
Battery
One month or more on a charge. Under qualifying operating conditions. Battery life varies with reporting frequency, signal conditions, usage, and configuration. A low-battery alert is raised at 25% by default, so a badge can be charged before it dies mid-shift.
Limits
A badge tells you where a person's badge is. It does not tell you what the crew is doing.
A badge left in a truck still counts as the crew being there, and a crew standing at the right site can still be idle. Use the view to ask better questions of a foreman, not to replace the foreman. It is built first for commercial construction crews and also fits other multi-site field crews. It is not designed for work far outside cellular coverage.
ZeroBadge AI
Ask ZeroBadge AI where the crew is
The live view shows the crew on a map. ZeroBadge AI answers the follow-up questions in plain English: who is where, who moved and how many people each job had. It reads only your company's records and links each answer to them.
You ask
Who is on site at Elm Street right now?
Eleven badges are on shift at the Elm Street warehouse as of their latest reports. Two more are in transit toward it and one is at the supply house.
You ask
Which workers moved between jobs yesterday?
Five. Three went from the shop to Harbor Road, one from Harbor Road to Elm Street and one made a supply house stop between jobs. Each move shows its drive time as transit.
You ask
How many people were at each jobsite on Tuesday?
Elm Street 14, Harbor Road 9 and Pine Ridge 6. The headcount counts anyone with time on site that day, and each number opens the list of names.
Answers come only from your company's own records. Every number links to the records behind it. Read-only; admins control access.
