What is ZeroBadge?
ZeroBadge is a workforce intelligence platform for field and jobsite-based teams. Each employee wears a dedicated, company-managed cellular hardware badge (the PS101-M) that automatically verifies work hours, jobsite presence, and shift activity — without requiring a personal smartphone, an app, or manual clock-ins. That verified data is turned into timesheets, jobsite intelligence, and labor cost reporting.
Do employees need to install an app or use their personal phone?
No. ZeroBadge does not require an employee smartphone at all. Each worker is issued a dedicated badge device that handles time and location verification independently — nothing to install, log into, keep charged and running, or grant permissions to on a personal device.
What does the physical badge look like and how is it worn?
The badge is a small, dedicated cellular device (model PS101-M) that clips onto a belt, lanyard, or work clothing. It has its own cellular connection, GPS, battery, and a physical alert button — it does not pair with or depend on a phone.
Who is ZeroBadge built for?
Organizations that manage field labor across one or more physical jobsites — construction general contractors and subcontractors, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty trades, and other field-services businesses where crews move between sites and hours need to be verified rather than self-reported.
Is ZeroBadge a time clock, or something more?
Both, but time tracking is the foundation, not the whole product. Underneath the automatic clock-in/out is a continuous record of jobsite presence, zone transitions, and shift events that also powers jobsite intelligence and labor-cost reporting — the same verified data set serves payroll, job costing, and safety monitoring.
Time Tracking & Automatic Clock-In
How does automatic clock-in and clock-out work?
A worker's shift starts the moment their badge powers on and connects, and ends when the badge powers off or goes offline (including a device-side graceful shutdown, or the platform detecting sustained silence from the badge). There's no button to press to start or end a shift.
Does the worker have to clock in at a specific geofence?
No. Clock-in and clock-out are driven by the badge's power state, not by crossing a specific jobsite boundary. That's a deliberate design choice: an early geofence-driven version of this produced false clock-in/clock-out cycles whenever a worker simply moved around near a boundary. Geofence crossings are tracked separately as a verification and jobsite-intelligence layer — see the next section.
What happens if a badge loses signal or the worker steps into a dead zone?
A brief signal gap doesn't end a shift. The platform distinguishes a genuine power-off from a temporary connectivity gap, and a badge that reconnects the same day without an actual power cycle continues the same shift record rather than splitting it into two.
Can a manager edit a clock-in or clock-out time?
Yes. Authorized managers can make manual corrections to shift boundaries, and every edit is recorded with who made it, when, and why — the correction is layered on top of the original verified record, not a silent overwrite.
What if a worker disagrees with their recorded hours?
Workers have their own self-service portal where they can view their timesheet, schedule, and device status, and submit a correction request with a reason. Managers review and approve or reject each request, and the worker is notified either way.
Geofencing & Jobsites
How does geofencing work?
Managers draw a geofence boundary around each jobsite, office, vendor location, or restricted area directly on a map in the dashboard. The platform then automatically detects when a badge enters or exits each boundary and logs it as a jobsite-activity event.
Can a worker move between multiple jobsites in one shift?
Yes. Every GPS fix is checked against every jobsite-type geofence in the organization, not just the worker's assigned one — so moving between sites, or stepping outside every geofence briefly (a supply run, lunch), is logged as a zone transition rather than treated as clocking out and back in.
Can I set up restricted areas or off-limits zones?
Yes. Restricted-area geofences work as a real enter/exit alert — entry raises an immediate, high-priority alert to management rather than a routine activity log entry, and it auto-resolves when the badge leaves the area.
How accurate is the GPS positioning?
The badge uses GPS for location fixes and is configured for GPS-only positioning (rather than Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-based estimation, which is far less precise). Zone-boundary detection also accounts for normal GPS positioning variance so a worker standing near a boundary doesn't trigger spurious enter/exit events.
Does ZeroBadge track office or vendor visits separately from jobsite time?
Yes. Office, vendor, and restricted-area zones are tracked independently from jobsite zones, so a stop at a supply vendor or the company office is logged as its own activity and never counted as job-cost labor hours on a project.
Timesheets & Payroll
How are timesheets generated?
Daily and weekly timesheets are built automatically from the verified shift and location record — clock-in, verified location checkpoints, jobsite transitions, and clock-out — with no manual data entry required from the worker.
Can I export timesheets for payroll?
Yes. Timesheets and daily reports can be exported (CSV) for payroll processing, and weekly timesheet reports are also generated as downloadable PDF documents.
Does ZeroBadge integrate directly with a payroll or accounting system?
Not today — there is no built-in QuickBooks, ADP, Gusto, or similar direct integration yet. Exported timesheet data (CSV/PDF) is designed to be payroll-ready so it can be imported into whatever system you already use.
What counts as "unverified" time on a timesheet?
Any worked time that isn't confirmed inside an approved jobsite, office, or vendor geofence is classified separately as unverified/off-site time rather than silently folded into a jobsite's hours — so labor-cost reporting only ever counts time that was actually confirmed on location.
How does ZeroBadge handle overtime?
Regular and overtime hours are split automatically based on your organization's configured daily/weekly overtime thresholds, computed from the verified shift record rather than self-reported hours.
Can workers see their own timesheets?
Yes. Every worker has access to their own portal showing their timesheet history, schedule, assigned jobsites, device status, and past correction requests — scoped strictly to their own records.
Safety & Alerts
What safety features does the badge have?
The PS101-M reports three distinct safety events: an automatic "man down" alert (accelerometer-detected, when the badge has been stationary in a way consistent with a fall or incapacitation), a physical Alert button, and a dedicated SOS button. Man-down and SOS events trigger an SMS notification to the contractor's designated contact in addition to an in-dashboard alert.
Does the platform flag unusual activity, like a badge that stops moving?
Yes. Beyond the safety-button events, the platform can flag a badge that hasn't moved in an unusually long time, and separately flag a worker who is on an active shift, outside every approved geofence, and stationary for an extended period — both as configurable thresholds, and both distinct from the accelerometer-based man-down detection.
Are safety alerts real-time?
Alerts appear on the live dashboard in real time as they're raised, and man-down/SOS events additionally trigger an SMS notification.
Security & Privacy
How is data isolated between different customer organizations?
Every customer's data lives in the same database but is enforced-isolated at the database layer via row-level security policies on every table — an authenticated user's queries can only ever return rows belonging to their own organization, independent of what the application code does or doesn't check.
Is data encrypted?
Yes — in transit (TLS) and at rest. Each physical badge also authenticates to the platform using its own unique device certificate, so one compromised badge credential can't be used to impersonate another.
How long is location data kept?
Detailed GPS location data tied to timesheet records is automatically purged after 90 days. The underlying shift record (clock times, hours, jobsite, worker) is retained separately for payroll and audit purposes for up to 3 years before it's eligible for deletion.
Who can see a worker's location data?
Only authorized managers within that worker's own employer organization — enforced by row-level security, not just application-level permission checks. Every read of location and timesheet data is also logged for audit purposes.
Can I delete a worker's or jobsite's data?
Yes. Deleting a worker or jobsite archives it with a restore option for a limited retention window, after which it's permanently purged. Deleted alerts go through a two-step confirmation and are not restorable, matching how a customer would expect a genuine deletion to behave.
Who is the data controller — ZeroBadge or my company?
Your organization is the data controller: you decide to deploy the badges and configure jobsites, schedules, and workers. ZeroBadge acts as the data processor, storing and processing that data on your behalf. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Hardware & Operations
How is the badge powered, and how long does the battery last?
The badge has its own rechargeable battery and reports its battery level to the dashboard continuously, so fleet managers can see low-battery devices before they go offline.
What happens when a badge's battery gets low?
The dashboard raises a low-battery alert before the device is expected to lose power, so it can be charged or swapped before it affects a worker's shift record.
How does badge provisioning work when we onboard a new company or worker?
A superadmin registers each badge by its serial number and assigns it to your organization; you then create jobsites with drawn geofences and assign badges to named workers from your own dashboard. Once a worker and a geofenced jobsite exist, automatic clock-in/out and jobsite tracking begin working immediately.
What if a badge is lost, damaged, or a worker leaves?
A badge can be unassigned from a worker and reassigned to another at any time from the dashboard — archiving a worker automatically unassigns their badge so it's ready to reissue.
How is ZeroBadge priced?
Pricing is per badge: a one-time hardware charge to purchase the physical device, plus a monthly per-active-badge platform fee. There are no separate plan tiers to navigate — the walkthrough is built around your actual jobsites and crew size. Contact us for current pricing.
Can I see a live map of where my crews are right now?
Yes. The live map shows every active badge with a status color (inside an approved jobsite during work hours, outside a geofence, or offline), the geofence boundaries themselves, and a quick on-demand location ping for any individual badge.
